Q: What is your favourite overseas Test ground any why?
A: Basin Reserve, Wellington. Iconic ground in a fantastic setting in a wonderful city, not to mention Trisha’s Pies & The Cambridge Hotel being within 100 yards of it
Q: Which country is your favourite to tour and why?
A: India – I love the chaos & the carnage but you can also retreat to luxury when it all gets too much! I also love the food.
Q: Of all the cities/towns you visited on town, which is your favourite and why?
A: This is a tough one. Melbourne, Mumbai, Wellington, Cape Town are all up there but if I have to pick 1 it is St Georges in Grenada. Absolutely loved it there. Lovely ground just outside the centre of the town, the rum shacks outside the ground, the friendliness of the locals, the beautiful beaches a stone’s throw away, lovely food. Overall a beautiful island that is as yet unspoilt by tourists. Oh & let’s not forget an unexpected win when Jimmy ran through them on the morning of day 5 & we had to quickly decamp from the beach bars to the ground!
Q: What is your most memorable non cricket moment on tour?
A: The journey of death on the road from Dhaka to Chittagong in 2010. Landed late in Dhaka (midnight) having missed the last flight & the last train to Chittagong so me & 2 lads from Blackburn (who I’ve never seen before or since) ended up paying some random local £20 each to take us on the 7 hour journey by road. It was without doubt the most terrifying moment of my life, we all genuinely thought we were going to die. The road was dangerous enough with oncoming lorries forcing smaller vehicles out of the way & our driver nodding off on a regular basis didn’t exactly help the situation!
Q: What do you enjoy most about touring?
A: The people you meet many of whom have become friends for life.
