Awful news. Spent the afternoon and evening drinking to the memory of a good cricket friend and quizmaster extraordinaire who was found dead today and now Midnight, another cricket legend, has also shuffled off this mortal coil. Numb.
Andy Clark
Really sad news, so many good memories of sharing pints with him all over the world bemoaning English batting collapses. Proper decent fella. RIP Midnight
Billy Cooper
Gutted to hear about this last week. Used to work with Alan many years ago and always kept in touch. He always loved his cricket and whilst I never got the chance to go touring with him we did spend a few good days at OT watching Lancs way back when. RIP Alan

So sorry to hear this. I worked with Alan for quite a few years and he was my boss for a while. Lovely man. We knew to leave him alone on a Monday if United had got beaten at the weekend. He was a character & we loved him for his quirks. RIP So sad

Absolutely gutted, first met him in New Zealand 2013, what an amazing person to have met. Will miss his regular visits to Long Eaton whenever England or Lancs were in Notts. RIP mate

Just found out about this at the Old Trafford Test. Knew Alan for years as a fellow Lancs fan and spent many an hour talking nonsense with him watching cricket. Was always jealous of him going on his winter tours to watch England too. RIP Alan.

Oh no, absolutely devastated! Such happy memories with Midnight. He was a witness at our wedding all of those years ago. Yes he could be a grumpy bugger but we always laughed so much when we were around him. I really was hoping we could find our way back to some test matches when the kids were older and carry on where we all left off! Thanks for the memories midnight.. Rest in Peace. X
Laura Storer
Absolutely gutted to hear this. RIP Midnight
Andrew Wallis
My old mate. He always thanked me at every match for getting him off his arse and on tour. He didn’t need to as I believed he would have eventually anyway……in time.
We had such a laugh over the years. I’m gutted. Goodbye my friend.
Kenny Manton
RIP you absolute diamond. A wonderful bloke who will be missed by so many.

RIP to England’s Number One Fan. Alan from Aldershot.
He was always Midnight to us. Managing to combine grumpiness and great humour.
A kind man, who loved his music, football and cricket.

What dreadful news, I’m so sorry to all who knew him better than I.
Smashing friendly fella who it was always a pleasure to see.
Simon Higgins
Awful news, as you’ve all said, he was a grumpy fecker but with a glint of humour always. We have to do something in his honour. RIP Midnight, Addis Army legend x
John Fedrick
I was in this converted tea factory with Midnight somewhere in the middle of Sri Lanka and after having a rather nice meal in a train carriage that they had somehow transported to their garden, we went to the bar. Unfortunately for the hapless bar staff, Manchester United were playing Liverpool and the Mancs were losing. Midnight was foaming at the mouth as if he’d been bitten by a rabid dog. That was the last we saw of the bar staff they were that scared. So many memories so many amazing trips in the great man’s company. Can’t believe it, very upsetting.
Martin Hughes
How very sad to hear – he was a ‘one off’. RIP Midnight
