Supporter in the Spotlight

Barmy Andy Q&A

Q: What was your first overseas Test match?
A: Brisbane 2002.Nasser’s infamous “We’ll have a bowl” Test. We got hammered in 4 days and the English support was so good all the players (bar the skipper) came over to the stand and thanked us.

Q: What is your most memorable overseas Test match you’ve seen?
A: Auckland 2013. Nail biting draw 9 down with Prior and Monty getting us over the line. Who says draws are boring?

Q: Who is your favourite current England player?
A: Jonny Bairstow. Silenced the doubters over his batting, continues to improve as a keeper. Never stops grafting. Proper team man.

Q: Who is your favourite England player of all time?

A: Ian Bell. Should have got 10,000 plus Test runs. Have YOU seen a better cover drive?

Q: Who is your favourite opposition player of all time?
A: I always enjoyed watching Rahul Dravid, so elegant. But Kohli has everything - except runs in England. So far.

Q: What is your favourite overseas Test ground any why?
A: Newlands. No matter how many times you go there you can’t help catching your breath when you walk into the stand on Day One and see the stunning backdrop of Table Mountain.

Q: Which country is your favourite to tour and why?
A: Sri Lanka hands down. Great people, great food, great country and value for money. Tough cricket, too.

Q: Of all the cities/towns you visited on town, which is your favourite and why?
A: Johannesburg. Fantastic very affordable restaurants, great bars and the best appointed Test ground in the world IMHO.

Q: What is your most memorable non cricket moment on tour?
A: Braving an innate fear of heights to climb Sigiriya rock. Wonderful place.

Q: What do you enjoy most about touring?
A: Well it’s got me a brilliant job for a start but I guess meeting up with friends and touring buddies, sharing a beer or three and talking loads of bollocks is top of the tree for me.
